Reading Time: 2 minutes

Blockchain technology is going to change so much of what we take for granted in society today. But it will take a fair amount of time to get there. Just think of what the internet has done: Snail mail, CD stores, retail stores, taxi services, hotels, newspapers & magazines – all completely disrupted by companies most of whom are younger than 15 years old. And the thing is; we have only scratched the surface. The internet is only just getting warmed up.

Now think about what is coming with blockchain. If the internet took the better part of 20 years just to get warmed up, can you imagine what we will be facing thanks to blockchain in the next 20 years?

With that in mind, did you ever think sunken treasure could benefit from the blockchain? Did you ever think that local communities could benefit from said sunken treasure thanks to the blockchain?

Matthew Arnett is one such man who is building two companies that will do just that: Benefit and uplift local communities by placing their localized artefacts on the blockchain and tokenizing them.

How will he do that? By searching for and retrieving historical artefacts from sunken ships (with PO8), placing them in local museums in the jurisdiction where they were found, and tokenizing them in order to redistribute the proceeds (with Fort NFT Protocol). These proceeds could be generated by museum entries, and by selling fractional ownership of these artefacts to collectors thanks to blockchain-empowered digital tokens.

Matthew is a remarkable individual, with a history and CV mirroring that of some of the world’s leading tech entrepreneurs. A leading student from the Bahamas, he joined the Tsinghua-MIT MBA program in China where he was one of their top students. After building the hugely successful “sendmetickets.com”, he turned his focus to Blockchain.

Already gaining huge traction with the Bahamian, Kenyan and South African governments, his companies are proving themselves to be incredible pioneers in the blockchain space. This interview with a remarkable young man shows a man passionate about the technology, and its ability to give back to society.
